Wee River

Staying over at Granny and Grandad’s is one of the fondest memories of many Marshites. Quite often children ended up living with grandparents for a while, especially during the Second World War or in its aftermath. Carl Smith loved staying at his granny’s in Newhaven Terrace. It was warm and peaceful…and there was the lure of fishing in the Freshney. But one day stands out above all others in his memory…the day he got a wee bit too close to the fish….
